I really had no idea what to expect, except by all accounts, that it would amazing. That is an UNDERSTATEMENT, my dear! Your voice simply blew me away! Everything did, quite frankly, but I just don't think I was prepared for the power and beauty of your vocal instrument. So thanks for that pleasant surprise! I was thoroughly entertained, amused, moved, and connected to everything you did on that stage. Your generosity to other performers, including myself, was above and beyond the call, and so greatly appreciated. You make everyone in the room feel special. That is an incredible gift of yours, among so many others that you possess! I can't wait to see the new version, complete with backup singers, but the real act is you, on your own, doing what you do best; paying a loving, beautiful, musical tribute to Ms. Channing. City, State: Brooklyn, NY` Website: www.jasonwynn.net Comments: I've seen Richard's shows before and have always been entertained and amazed at the huge talent taking the stage. The most recent - "Carol Channing in Concert" - was no exception. In fact, this one topped all the others by a mile! Start with Richard's amazing voice, which seems to know no limit. Not to mention, his razor-sharp quick wit, and his captivating charm. But then you add the terrific band and the cute backup singers (singing some great arrangements). And all of this comes together with a wide repertoire chronicalling the great Carol's career. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a show so much. I learned interesting facts about Carol and her career, I heard great music, flawlessly performed, and I laughed and smiled so much, my face actually hurt after the show. There's not a single person who I would NOT recommend this show to. I loved EVERY MINUTE of it!
City, State: SAN FRANCISCO, CA Comments: The kindness of Richard and the performance of him as Carol Channing last year made me come for a second round when he was back in town. I took his class, and gained so much knowledge as a beginning cabaret artist!I brought my best friends Matt and Jenn to his show at the Octavia lounge. He delievered the most amazing night of entertainment, his energy, his effervescent homage to Carol, (we always call him Carol) I have to just say how wonderful Mr. Skipper is, and how very much I look forward to his return.
City, State: New York, NY Comments: The remarkable thing about your performance is that it does not rely on the usual exaggerated Carol Channing mannerisms, but on the subtleties of Miss Channing, making your portrayal an accumulation of small truths. What we came to expect was not what we got. Instead we were transported (a word used by Sondra Lee). It's a performance that grows beautifully as the evening progresses. We soon come to accept you as the lady herself. The bonus is the window into the past that you create, bringing Carol Channing very much into the present and into the room. We had a delightful evening at Helen's Hide-away. |
