City, State: New York, NY Website: conceptsunltdinc.com/dickbarclay Comments: Richard Skipper's opening night of Richard Skipper as Carol Channing In Concert was one of the most enjoyable evenings I have spent in the theater in a long time. Skipper is truly a very important icon in the field of entertainment. Every moment he is on stage is a jewel. He certainly knows his craft ...and he knows how to perform it to the fullest....Skipper's singing, his fantastic appearance, his brilliant acting and quick wit and his charisma all added up to an evening of pure pleasure performed by a true artist... Skipper has a very tender, kind soul and the audience certainly felt it. A lot of love came across those footlights, the same as it does for Carol Channing. And he is up there all alone...exactly how it use to be when stars performed in the Persian Room at The Plaza or in the Empire Room at the Waldorf Astoria... and we were with him every minute...... He is truly a very rare and special person and for that I thank him from the bottom of my heart. Richard Barclay, conceptsunltdinc.com/dickbarclay
City, State: NYC Comments: Tuesday night's pre-opening night of "Carol Channing in Concert" was my 4th time seeing some version of the show. This is a show you can go back to again and again, because it's always a surprise. Richard's forte, in my opinion, is his interaction with the audience, so each show is fresh and new. This being my 4th time, I was looking around at the small (due to the threatening snow storm), but lively, audience members. No one stopped smiling (including me) through the entire show. However, one moment that Richard has kept in each show, is Dolly Levi's speech to her late husband Ephraim, which I find so moving and emphasizes the fact that Richard is an exquisite ACTOR. It was the only time I stopped smiling, because he moves me to tears EVERY TIME. Go see this show! — Diana LeBlanc, New York, NY
City, State: NYC Website: http://www.percevalassociates.com Comments: I've never had so much fun or experienced such joy in the surprise--every show is fresh and new given Skipper's talent for interacting with his audience. His tribute to Channing is remarkable for its spot-on character, historical accuracy, respect and unqualified musical talent! Richard Skipper as Carol Channing is a masterclass in musical comedy. City, State: New York, NY Comments: Great show
City, State: NYC Comments: Oh Richard, how lovely you are. Glad we were able to come to your show last night (1/10/11). THIS SHOW was even better than ever. I like all of the little changes/adjustments. Your recording/message in the beginning of the show was great and cute. Better than the video actually. The stage looked better (even if one of the pictures fell....it couldn't have happened at a better time of the show). But YOU have a gift of knowing your audience and a focus that I don't think you can even teach. This was smooth, meaningful and fun. I wish you success. I think it will last a long time, you've done it!! And you've shown that there can be respect, polish, and talent in a show without the loud music, wild lighting and flying actors. I'm so lucky and proud to know you. CONGRATULATIONS. Mary Lahti, NYC |
