I tell you, I've seen Hello Dolly of course and the last time was with my very favorite Bette Midler. But I never teared up until Sunday night. You, being authentic and loveable made everyone in the audience feel that we were all important to you. The sold out audience was filled with friends and fans who felt they belonged… And you, from the moment came out, (excuse the pun) were endearing, warm, real, incredibly funny with your off the cuff adlibs to your adoring audience. Your choice of songs were a part of the love you gave us… We were all mesmerized with you as you explained your love and devotion to Carol Channing and your special relationship with her; and your passion for musical theatre. The topping was presenting filmed interviews with the wonderfully talented actresses and actors who played a part in history of “Hello Dolly” then …and then you introduced LeeRoy Reems as your special guest who brought down the house with his “Hello Dolly“ stories and song “ I Found a Penny in My Pocket”…from the show… But, Richard it was your ending that made all of us realize how special and extraordinary last night was …(even my friend Lauree was crying because she was so moved and touched by you) Thank you Richard Skipper for giving me and that packed room of people last night a night we will all cherish and never forget… Barbara Minkus, https://www.barbaraminkus.com
City, State: NYC Comments: Oh My Darling Man, You and your show were SPECTACULAR last evening....and what a turn out...OMG...it was positively thrilling. So many wonderful friends and acquaintances cheering you on to higher and higher levels of shear delight. Be proud....you were perfect....I still think you should go up for acting roles.....you my dear man...are a very fine actor. Diane Findlay
City, State: NYC Website: http://www.lornadallas.com Comments: Last night at the Beechman...a full house...jammed to the rafters! And the reason? Richard Skipper celebrating 60 years of HELLO DOLLY! Richard is the host extraordinaire! He is an encyclopedia of all things and people Dolly! And he bursts into the room with the zeal and passion to impart all this to an adoring audience! Cleverly directed by James Beaman with a neat musical director as foil, Don Pardo, Richard regales us with his loving anecdotes and tributes to the myriad of women who have portrayed Dolly...and they are a marvelous group of ladies! There are filmed clips of original cast members...and in the audience, how wonderful to have several of them who were introduced...and to top it all off we have Lee Roy Reams as the special guest! Lee Roy has probably the longest association with Dolly...not only being Cornelius on Broadway but also over the years directing other productions of the show...and he brought the house down with his version of A PENNY IN MY POCKET, which was a long lost gem written for Horace...but rarely used. Ooooooooh, but Richard's love and adoration of Carol Channing shines through the evening like a meteorite blazing through the skies and then a warm fuzzy blanket enfolding you...and his stories and pictures of meeting her, becoming a close confidante and being one of her devoted "interpreters" is a thing of love and truthfulness which truly speaks to your heart. I don't think anyone wanted the evening to end...it was enthralling and entertaining and the perfect parade that Dolly Levi would lead!
