I just wanted to say that working with Richard for his performance as Carol Channing as Dolly Levi in ReVision Theatre's production of HELLO, DOLLY! was a pleasure and an honor. Richard went above and beyond the call of duty in promoting the show and was one of the most professional people I have worked with in various fields. After seeing his performance in DOLLY I was thrilled when he came to preform his night-club act at McCloone's on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. It was a night to remember. THANK YOU again Richard, you are the best.

It made for a MOST entertaining evening -- between the terrific musicians, "back up singers" and.. of course, YOU. I'll never forget how a couple that attended that night, from the shore area, left the room thinking you were Carol Channing. But.. of course, why now!? City, State: NYC Website: www.suematsuki.com Comments: I know it sounds odd to think of a man for the role of Dolly Levi in "Hello Dolly!:, but I recently saw Richard Skipper do this entire production at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, New Jersey (a SOLD OUT production I might add and that's a BIG theatre). His preformance was as if Carol Channing in her prime was doing the role once again. Richard is the #1 Carol Channing tribute artist in the country and actually even has Carol's sanction. As a matter of fact, she's even told him that he sings better than she ever did! Richard as Carol is NOT what anyone would imagine. He is not a "drag" act. He is an actor, singing in his own voice (well HER voice actually) playing a loving tribute to this wonderful woman. Let's face it, she was the ultimate Dolly Levi (and the 1st I might add, hand picked by Jerry Herman himself which I'm sure you know). It is literally as if she's on stage doing the role. I have seen Mr. Skipper's act a few times and what always tickles me is when some wicked straight guys see the show (either being brought there by their wives or just curious to see a "man in a dress"). What always happens is that they lose themselves completely in the show and in Richard's performance. He does this bit in his concert series where he brings up two guys from the house to be back up boys for Carol (him) and time and time again, as the guys leave the stage, they give Richard (Dolly/Carol) a kiss and then they realized going back to their seats that they basically just kissed a guy. It's hysterical but it's also just fabulous because what matters to every single person in the house is the performance. Not "the man in the dress". In Asbury...Richard was Carol and Carol was Dolly. The performance out there was fantastic! Every single time I have seen Richard perform he has received a standing ovation. Every single time! The house at Asbury was also filled for a reason. Even though this is a predominately "gay" area, the house was mostly families and couples. I suspect that there was a huge curiosity about a man playing this role but no one left during intermission! A testiment to the actor on stage! I also suspect that this is what will sell out any theatre as well, should others consider giving him a chance to play this role again.
