We absolutely loved Richard Skipper Celebrates Hello, Dolly! (no surprise to moi, as Richard has always put his heart and soul into everything he does) And boy, we wound up with the best seats in the house. I mean..my wife was both the recipient of his first rose..which she proudly displayed in our kitchen..and his "Don't do it without a Skipper" adieu. (As brilliantly improvisational as he is , he DOES orchestrate other aspects of the show so that it comes full-circle!)

 

As I mentioned to him after the performance, I was never really even a fan of "Dolly"..or Merman..or Mary Martin..or even Streisand..well..other than on the awesome "Broadway" album. (I did really enjoy and admire Carol as both an ENTERTAINER and as a person. She was unique). But Richard could do a show on my least favorite musical, "Cats" (well..'least favorite' other than for my MOST fave live singer ever, my friend, the late Laurie Beechman and I would probably want to go see it!

I had the great pleasure of meeting the effervescent Richard Skipper when introduced by my dear friend, Joel Vig. In a social setting Richard is engaging and charismatic, one of those people who make you feel like you've known him forever. Then I got to see him on stage! Wow! Suddenly he was in command of the spotlight, painting beautiful pictures with his stories. The show was captivating, and now Richard was treating the whole audience like we were dear, old friends. I highly recommend catching a Richard Skipper show at every opportunity.
