”Everything You Wanted to Know About Richard Skipper *But Were Afraid To Ask” was a sweet delight tonight at the newly refurbished Laurie Beechman Theatre.
And for an Entertainer who is a product of the TV Variety Shows of the ‘60’s & ‘70’s,
Richard successfuly conjured their joy, musicality and celebrity dish with seemingly effortless aplomb. Answering questions we submitted just prior to the performance, Richard artfully took us on a journey of his roots, his New York and his his career with his singular ability to spin a tale intertwined with uncannily chosen songs. The remarkably intuitive Music Director Dan Pardo skillfully underscored these spontaneous stories with ever appropriate show tunes, and seamlessly wove in and out of the rehearsed musical numbers to allow for Richard’s numerous and humorous asides. Kudos to Director James Beaman for crafting a show that artfully allows Richard to work his ”off the cuff” magic, and still follows a trajectory that builds to a well-earned, triumphant and hugely uplifting “It’s Not Where You Start It’s Where You Finish.”
A moment of uncanny magic: Jacquline Parker submitted her question with the psuedonym “Holly Golightly.” The question was “how would you spend the last hours before the world ended?” Incredibly, the “planned” song was “Moon River,” beautifully tied to Richard’s answer about how we can tether our memories of loved ones to songs. Truman Capote couldn’t have crafted it all as eloquently.
Keep an eye out for the Encore in August … though, given to formula, “Encore” isn’t the right word as the show will be born anew before that audience’s eyes based on their questions. Don’t be afraid to ask!

Richard Skipper is one of the warmest and most intuitive interviewers! We asked Richard to host an evening at our Dutch Treat Club and he was able to secure the incredible Julie Halston and fabulous Melissa Errico for the night! We heard from many that night, that not only was it the best night ever for Dutch Treat, but indeed one of the best evenings they had ever attended, period! I have to agree - my face hurt from smiling so much that night! I cannot say enough about it, and as the Entertainment Chair of the Dutch Treat Club, if anyone would like to to reach out to ask me additional questions of just how wonderful Richard is to work with, please do!

Richard Skipper, Just want to let you know once again how wonderful your show was at the Salmagundi Club in NYC

You definitely have a vehicle here, that shows off your varied talents to great effect.

You’re singing better than ever! And your personality and interaction with us in the audience is so delightful! You’re the best at being able to be spontaneous, while maintaining a cohesive thread through your storytelling.

There was an arc and shape to the show that worked, and the songs you chose enhanced each of the moments they were woven through. Dan’s sensitive accompaniment was the wind beneath your wings, and allowed you to soar. BRAVO!Goldie Dver, NYC

What a warm and spirited show you delivered to those who gathered on one of the nastiest nights of the year! Your charm and talent touched everyone, and the show itself was curated and presented beautifully. I could have stayed for another hour!
And you looked fantastic!
