City, State: Flushing, NY Comments: When Broadway Cares sent me an invitation to last week's private screening of Carol Channing: Larger than Life, I had no doubt that Richard Skipper would be featured somewhere along the line in 30-foot by 50-foot splendor. Well, the screen was quite a bit smaller than I expected. Nevertheless, congratulations are in order since Richard garnered more screen time than Tommy Tune and Chita Rivera.........combined. I was a bit irritated, though, when the on-screen identifier referred to Richard as a Carol impersonator. Christopher Peterson impersonates. Alan Palmer impersonates. Richard......becomes, which, although it might be considered by some to be a subtle difference (I disagree), is what sets his portrayal apart from all the rest of the Carol wannabes and puts Richard in a class by himself. And not intending to demean the performances of the others, I'm nonetheless always pleased to be able to tell people that I have seen many of Richard's appearances. I know it's been a long time since we touched base but I wanted to let you know that I had the opportunity (finally!) to attend a BCEFA screening of Carol's film last night and it was SO terrific!! You looked wonderful and spoke so articulately as usual & I'm so happy for you about being part of it as I know it meant the world to you :) What a loving and wonderful tribute the film is! I thoroughly enjoyed it! I was delighted to meet Dori Berenstein afterwards as well. What a lovely evening! Anyway... I just wanted to share that with you. Someone sent me this from "ALL THAT CHAT" A documentary on "Carol Channing--Larger Than Life" premieres tonight at the Tribeca Film Festival. I'm looking forward to it. I've never seen her "live." The closest I came was seeing Richard Skipper's one-man show about her in December, which I thought was well done; if they give any kind of awards for outstanding one-person play, his show deserves consideration. He not only sang her songs, he answered questions from the audience (in character). Jerry
