City, State: Brooklyn, New York Comments: I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Richard Skipper's performance 2 weeks in a row and was delightfully entertained each time. His show at the Wing's Theatre was excellently performed, tightly choreographed and just perfect. Richard as Carol is an extremely engaging performer and he channels her perfectly. I loved the interaction with the audience. I've become a devotee!

The level of love and dedication that Richard presents Carol Channing is way beyond the impersonators in the Business today. There is no comment or judgment....just PURE LOVE and PURE ENTERTAINMENT. I must say...he does Carol better than Carol does Carol. I know she is THRILLED to know that he is keeping her "Legend" alive, while introducing her to new audiences with every performance. People who would NEVER know who Carol Channing is or was...get to experience her wacky, wonderful world through Richard Skipper. GOD LOVE YOU!!!
City, State: NYC Comments: I've enjoyed Richard Skipper's tribute of Channing on many occasions. Many imitate Carol, but Skipper can improvise on the spot and make you wonder if it really is Carol. The result is a genuine tribute and wonderful entertainment. Channing herself has raved about Skipper's work -- no small compliment. I can't recommend his act highly enough -- everyone should see it!
City, State: NYC Comments: Richard Skipper remarkably becomes Carol Channing in this smartly written and nicely paced two hour entertainment at the Wings Theatre. He is accompanied by a musical trio as well as three chorus boys, the latter filling in during costume changes and doing some back up singing and dancing. The boys have their own moment in the spotlight, with sensational harmonizing in Jerry Herman's "It Only Takes A Moment." Skipper really needs no help, though. His detailed tribute (aside from her voice, he has also mastered her unique arm and wrist movements and her wide-eyed innocent look) of the star of HELLO DOLLY and other Broadway shows is reason enough to make the trip downtown. This is by no means a "drag" show done for laughs. Skipper treats his subject with love and respect and, for more than just a moment, you forget that the real Channing is not the lady you're watching up on stage. A delightful surprise. |
