City, State: NYC Comments: Dear Liz, I am Richard Skipper's personal assistant and I have written to you before at your other email address about Richard's show, CAROL CHANNING IN CONCERT Starring Richard Skipper, but I wanted to send you something today at the Post about Richard's performance last night at the Hideaway at Helen's. I work with a variety of performing and visual artists and designers as a publicist and assistant, and I only work with those people who I truly admire. I am a big fan of Richard's - as a person and a performer he is first class, and last night's show proved to me what he is made of. The show started flawlessly, and Richard began his opening numbers with his usual exuberance and perfection, but at the end of the second number, he fainted, due to lack of eating during the day and hot stage lights and even hotter costumes. The house was packed to overflowing, and true to his showmanship and professionalism, although another performer might have called the show off, he bravely said in his dressing room that he had to perform that night because he didn't want to let anyone in the audience down. We all encouraged him to think of himself first, but he said he would do the show, and he did it, better than I have ever seen him perform. Lee Roy Reams was in the audience that night, and after the show he told Richard that Carol herself would have done the same thing. He went on to say that Richard "was" Carol Channing - that he has her essence and style and sense of humor, love and warmth. We have invited you to the first two shows and unfortunately you have not been able to be our guest yet, but we would like to extend an invitation to the show on June 20th in hopes that you have time to attend that night. Rebecca Luker, Alison Frasier and Ken Billington have already made their reservations, and the house is filling fast. Please let me know if you will be able to be our guest that night as it would be an honor to have you in the audience. With best regards, Jannie Wolff Personal Assistant to Richard Skipper (845) 365-0720
City, State: Brooklyn, NY Website: http://web.mac.com/tinman1062 Comments: Richard is a marvel at staying in character and conversing with the audience as Carol Channing on just about any subject. His knowledge of Carol and his ability to "reminisce" about her long career, as well as his sincere respect for her, make for an enjoyable evening. Bill

City, State: New Orleans, La. Comments: I saw your show at Helen's on 06/09 and I thought you were absolutely wonderful. I imagine it must be very hard to keep in Carol's character for an hour and a half, but you achieved that so effortlessly. It was a terrific concert. I adore Carol and I felt as if she were there delivering all of her great numbers. Thanks so much for a grand time.
City, State: New York, NY Website: Under Construction Comments: Richard started as an excellent performer. What makes it doubly exciting for me to go to a Richard Skipper show is that every time I think he's hit his peak he surprises me and jumps to yet a another and higher level. His latest show is as "big time" as a cabaret can get. This show has size. It's a major concert and looks and sounds as though it's meant for a major Vegas room or even Broadway. Not only has Richard deepened his ability to capture Carol Channings character, he's developed his voice to be one of the best in the business. |
